As a "purpose-built" vehicle, the London Taxi is designed
and built for public transport. As a state-of-the-art public
transport vehicle, the London Taxi offers numerous features
and amenities over other "for hire" vehicles. As a result,
the London Taxi represents an unprecedented opportunity to
improve the quality of taxi and livery service in your community.
Taking advantage of this opportunity will benefit residents,
business people and tourists alike - including those with
disabilities.

The
biggest challenge to introducing the London Taxi into your community's
taxi and or livery vehicle fleet is that it involves, on an operator's
part, a significant initial investment. Frankly, a new London Taxi costs
substantially more than the used, former police cars that typify most
taxi fleets. And while the London Taxi will more than pay for itself over
time, local regulations to accommodate the London Taxi can help give an
operator an incentive to make that investment.
Most
likely, your city or town has regulations in place governing taxis and
livery vehicles. We work with taxi regulators and taxi operators to tailor
local regulations to accommodate the London Taxi. We call it "regulating
the London Taxi into practice", and doing so can be accomplished in many
ways.
|
Depending
on how your community presently regulates its taxi and/or
livery fleets, one or more of the following regulatory changes
may help bring the London Taxi to your streets:
- Permit
additional service life for purpose-built public transport
vehicles
- Permit
additional service life for handicapped-accessible
public transport vehicles
- Utilize
and/or subsidize the use of purpose-built public transport
vehicles for transporting its seniors and disabled.
(Paying for purpose-built taxis and/or livery vehicles
to do this at 'off peak' hours results in a stronger
local taxi fleet, reduces municipal costs for such
services and provide a more flexible 'on demand' service.)
- Establish
a special class of license or medallion for purpose-built
public transport vehicles
- Offer
a "second tier" of service that allows drivers to
charge a higher fare to ride in a purpose-built public
transport vehicle.
- Permit
drivers to charge an extra fare for three or more
passengers.
- Permit
special methods of revenue generation, e.g., advertising
outside and inside, for purpose-built public transport
vehicles.
- Provide
special ranks or stands for handicapped-accessible
public transport vehicles
- Permit
owner to charge higher lease rates for public transport
purpose-built public transport vehicles.
- Guarantee
loans for purchasers of purpose-built public transport
vehicles
